Symphony No. 1
Premiered in 1908 and dedicated to the great Hans Richter, Elgar's 1st Symphony was an instant success, being performed a hundred times in its first year. The third movement is as beautiful a movement as any of Elgar's. Richter, who conducted the premiere said: "Ah! this is a real Adagio - such an Adagio as Beethove' would have writ."
