Froissart

This was Elgar's first large scale composition for full orchestra. Commissioned for the 1890 Three Choirs Festival, it is a high spirited work, but never strident. Though not performed as often as Elgar's other overtures, its vitality prevents its total eclipse by the far greater works which were soon to appear.
